    GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - A West Michigan child has died from complications thought to be directly related to coronavirus.
    Helen DeVos Children's Hospital confirms to News 8 that the child died after being diagnosed with multi-system inflammatory syndrome in children, also known as MIS-C.
    MIS-C is a rare inflammatory syndrome that affects children, typically after they've recovered from a COVID-19 infection.

    Michigan surpasses 300,000 coronavirus cases since March

    GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Michigan has confirmed another 8,478 cases of coronavirus and an additional 101 deaths linked to the virus.
    Officials discovered 59 of the newly confirmed deaths during a regular review of death certificates, the state announced Saturday .
    The state has confirmed 302,705 COVID-19 cases since it was first detected in the state in March, and 7,528 have been linked to it.
    As of Friday, 152,267 people are considered to be recovered from the virus, meaning they are still alive a month after developing symptoms.
