‘Tighten it Up': Ernst Supports Republican Push to Shorten Early Voting in Iowa

DES MOINES, Iowa - U.S. Sen. Joni Ernst said she is in favor of legislation currently making its way through the Iowa Legislature that would shorten the state's early voting period.
The Iowa Senate on Tuesday approved a bill to reduce the early voting window from 29 days to 20 days. The bill passed with a 30-18 vote, only receiving support from Republicans.

DES MOINES, Iowa - Republicans in the Iowa Senate approved a bill Tuesday sharply limiting early voting, with some arguing that changes were needed to ensure the integrity of the state's election despite no evidence of fraud.
The bill, approved on a vote of 30-18 with only Republican support, would reduce the mail and in-person early voting period, tightly regulate how absentee ballots can be returned and require polls in all elections to close at 8 p.m., an hour earlier than currently for general elections.
