Luke Skywalker's Lightsaber Changed How Jedi Built Their Weapons

Luke Skywalker changed the Jedi in many ways in Star Wars Legends, including how they built their iconic lightsabers. Unlike his current canon counterpart, the Luke Skywalker of the now-bygone Legends continuity continued his original trilogy character trajectory, improving Jedi philosophy and growing as a person rather than remaining stagnant. Luke's New Jedi Order learned from the mistakes of the Old Republic Jedi Order, but not only were their practices vastly improved, their lightsabers also lacked a weakness found in most prequel-era weapons.
