    DES MOINES, Iowa - United States Attorney Marc Krickbaum said 22-year-old Xzavier Clark was sentenced to ten years in prison on Thursday after pleading guilty for being a drug user in possession of a firearm.
    “One of Des Moines' most violent and most dangerous gang members has been sentenced to a decade in federal prison,” Krickbaum said. “But that sentence was not based on just that conduct, it was based on the repeated acts of violence that we proved to a federal judge yesterday.”
    Krickbaum said they connected Clark to a drive-by shooting in June 2019.

    DES MOINES, Iowa - After ten seasons, Des Moines native Jeremy Hellickson has retired from Major League Baseball.
    Hellickson told the Des Moines Register he is retiring after suffering a shoulder setback a few weeks ago that would have required surgery and rehab.
    Hellickson was one of the most dominant high school pitchers in Iowa history at Des Moines Hoover.
    He was drafted in 2005 by Tampa Bay. After spending four years in the minors, Hellickson made his major league debut in 2010.

  • Lovebirds Tie the Knot in Their 80s, Calling it the Next Chapter in Life

    DES MOINES, Iowa - A retired couple is about to tie the knot in their second act of life.
    Eighty-four-year-old Larry Card and 85-year-old Nan Seay Brooks met at Valley View Village in Des Moines over a year ago.
    Brooks said, “We play bingo together, we eat together and we just enjoy each other's company and, of course, he teases me and I pick on him.”
    The two quickly became an item when Brooks moved into the assisted living facility.
    “She was very friendly, laughed a lot and smiled, of course. She was just, I don't know, the chemistry was just there,” Card said.
